Welcome to my Sapa
I am Hoang Hung. I studied and worked in Hanoi, then spent two years backpacking across Vietnam and Southeast Asia — that traveler perspective is something I still carry today.
Sapa became my work and my home eight years ago. Since then, I have walked every trail, vetted every operator, and built relationships with local Hmong and Red Dao families. I understand both what travelers want, and what only locals can offer.
This site is not an aggregator. Every guide is tested by me or my team. We answer your WhatsApp at 11pm. If something feels off — message me directly.

ABOUT SAPA
What is Sapa, really?
Sapa is a mountain town in Lao Cai Province, northwest Vietnam, sitting at 1,500m altitude in the Hoang Lien Son Mountain Range. It is home to Fansipan, the tallest peak in Indochina at 3,147m.
Sapa is one of the few places in Vietnam where ethnic minorities are the majority. Five distinct minority groups — Hmong, Dao, Tay, Giay, and Xa Pho — make up 85% of the local population. They still farm, weave, and live the way their grandparents did. The Kinh, who form the majority elsewhere in Vietnam, represent only 15% here.
This guide is what we tell our own family when they visit. No fluff. No commission-driven recommendations. Just what works.

The coach was very clean and comfortable. The bedding and facilities were above expectations — I slept so soundly that I reached my destination from Sapa to Hanoi airport without waking up at all.

Sapa Nomad saved my bacon. My pre-booked overnight train was cancelled just a few hours before departure when I had 2 children with me — they got it all sorted via WhatsApp in real time. A great relief.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions about Sapa
The questions we get on WhatsApp every week — answered straight.
Where is Sapa located?
Sapa is a mountain town in northern Vietnam, in Lao Cai Province near the Chinese border. It sits about 320 km (200 miles) northwest of Hanoi at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level. The town is the gateway to Fansipan Mountain (Vietnam's highest peak) and the surrounding terraced rice valleys of Muong Hoa, home to several ethnic minority villages.
What is Sapa famous for?
Sapa is famous for three things: dramatic terraced rice fields cascading down the Muong Hoa Valley, ethnic minority villages (H'mong, Dao, Tay, Giay, Xa Pho) with preserved cultures and traditional dress, and Fansipan Mountain — the highest peak in Indochina at 3,147 meters, accessible by trekking or cable car. The mountain weather creates a cool climate distinct from tropical lowland Vietnam.
What is the best time to visit Sapa?
August-November is peak season — clear skies, golden rice harvests, mild 15-25°C weather. March-May offers cherry blossoms and pleasant temperatures. June-August has monsoon rain but the most vivid green terraces. December-February is cold (5-15°C) with occasional snow at high elevations — fewer tourists but harder for trekking. Book accommodation 2-4 weeks ahead during peak seasons.
How do I get to Sapa from Hanoi?
Three main options from Hanoi (320 km): overnight cabin sleeper buses (6-7 hours, $18-30 — most popular, with private cabins and toilets), limousine vans (5-6 hours, $19-25 — fastest, door-to-door pickup), or train to Lao Cai station + 1-hour minibus to Sapa (8 hours total, scenic but slower). All routes are bookable on our site or via WhatsApp.
Who is Sapa Nomad?
Sapa Nomad is a local travel agency based in Sapa, run by a team that lives and works in the area year-round. We're travelers ourselves — having explored other parts of Vietnam and beyond — so we understand what international visitors need, while bringing deep firsthand knowledge of Sapa's villages, routes, and seasons. Sapa Nomad is a brand operated by LIM Travel Company Limited, a registered Vietnamese travel company, founded in 2020.
What makes Sapa Nomad different from other Sapa tour agencies?
Three things: First, we're physically based in Sapa — our team lives here year-round and knows the routes, weather, and ethnic villages firsthand, not just from research. Second, all guides and content on our site come from our team's real Sapa experience, not AI-generated content or overseas freelancers. Third, we respond on WhatsApp within minutes, before and during your trip — not generic email tickets days later.
Is Sapa Nomad a licensed tour operator?
Yes — Sapa Nomad is operated by LIM Travel Company Limited, a registered Vietnamese travel company based in Sapa, Lao Cai Province. We work with established licensed bus operators (Sao Viet, HK Open Tour, and others) for transport bookings, and use certified local guides for trekking tours. All bookings include digital confirmation receipts. You can verify our reviews on TripAdvisor and Google Business profiles.
What is Sapa Nomad's cancellation policy?
Sapa Nomad offers a flexible cancellation policy on most bookings. Standard terms allow free cancellation before departure, with refunds processed within 5-7 business days back to your original payment method (timing depends on your bank). Specific terms may vary by product (cabin bus tickets, group tours, custom packages) — check the booking confirmation or product page for exact details. Our team is available 7 days a week on WhatsApp to assist with changes.
How early should I book a Sapa trip?
For peak seasons (September-November, March-May, Tet/Lunar New Year), book 2-4 weeks ahead — cabin buses and popular tours sell out fast. Off-peak (June-August, December-February), 3-7 days is usually enough. Last-minute bookings (1-2 days) are possible for transport during low season via WhatsApp. For multi-day custom tours, allow at least 1 week to plan logistics with our guides.
Are there trekking opportunities in Sapa?
Yes — Sapa is Vietnam's most popular trekking destination. Routes range from easy (Ham Rong mountain walk, 1-2 hours) to moderate (Cat Cat-Lao Chai-Ta Van village circuit, 12-15 km, 1 full day) to challenging (Fansipan summit trek, 2 days with overnight camp). All trekking should go with a licensed local guide — for safety, navigation, and cultural respect when entering ethnic villages.
