Overview
This 12 km trek follows the quiet side of Muong Hoa Valley: village paths through Y Linh Ho, Lao Chai and Ta Van. The three villages are home to Black H’mong, Giay and Red Dao families. You walk between rice terraces most of the way, with the Hoang Lien Son range above and the Muong Hoa stream below. Lunch is cooked in Lao Chai, and your guide grew up here.
Tour Options: This tour runs as a Group Tour ($19/person — join other travelers, fixed 8:30 AM departure) or a Private Tour ($23–45/person depending on group size — your own guide, flexible pace and start time). Both include the same route, lunch, entrance fees and an English-speaking guide.

Meet Your Guides
Your guide is a Black H’mong or Red Dao woman born in the villages on this route. Guests thank them by name in the reviews below. Chu explains each village, including her own. Nhu takes the group photos. Giang once swapped her shoes with a guest mid-trail. They walk this valley every week, in every season.

FAQs
Not necessarily. For this tour, basic fitness and a willingness to explore the whole route are enough.
If the weather becomes unsafe or affects visibility, the tour may be adjusted or postponed. You’ll either be offered an alternative route or a new date.
The signal along the easy route is generally good. In a few higher sections, mobile internet can be weaker.
Essentials include good hiking shoes/boots (on wet days), layers for changing weather, sun protection, and some cash (as many villages don’t take cards).
Yes. The tour package fee already includes lunch for you.
Yes — this is our easiest full-day route. No trekking experience needed, just basic fitness. Children from 6 years old are welcome (ages 6–11 pay 50%). Not suitable for travelers with mobility issues.
The rice terraces turn gold from mid-August to early September — the most photographed weeks of the year. May to July is greenest, and October to November brings the clearest mountain views. The hike runs year-round; winter days are cold but quiet. For month-by-month terrace photos, see our Muong Hoa Valley guide.
Our route is one-way, not a loop: you trek 12 km down the valley through Y Linh Ho, Lao Chai and Ta Van, and our driver brings you back to Sapa. You see the same villages and terraces as the “loop” routes — without walking the road section twice.
Not the right fit? Want a tougher day — take the 1-Day Hard Trek (steeper trails, five villages, from $25). Short on time — the Half-Day Cat Cat Trek covers the valley’s first villages in 3–4 hours (from $22). All our routes live on the Sapa trekking tours page.

We had a great trek with our amazing guide Chu. She answered all of our questions and told us lots about the local villages and tribes including her own. Everything was arranged well from start to finish. It was a great day and the private tour meant we could go at our own pace. Thank you Chu ❤️

The trek was great and the views were stunning! The guide Nhu was also very friendly and helpful, we had good conversations with her and she volunteeered to help us take photos as well. Sapa Nomad was also great at facilitating the whole process and keeping us updated, also speedy in their responses to us when we had questions. Would use their services again!

The tour guide was very knowledgeable, very patient, do not rush us, let us have ample time to take photos of the wonderful views. She was a local, was accomodative of our requests and most of all very friendly. We had a wonderful tour with a wonderful guide

I visited Sapa with my friends from Singapore, and we all had an adventurous journey through a trekking tour. It was an incredible day, and we were thankful for the blessing of good weather, no rain and not too hot. Our tour guides, Giang and Hung, were super supportive and caring, always looking out for our safety. Despite the challenging routes, especially due to the rain, we successfully navigated with the support of our guides and some local villagers. This experience is truly unforgettable, and we would have regretted not trying it. We really love the views, we passed through Y Linh Ho, the rice terraced fields, mountains and a little brook.
A special thanks to Hung, who captured all the great photos for our group and shared stories about Sapa. Also, gratitude to Giang for exchanging her shoes for my friend, she was deeply touched by Giang’s kindness. Giang also assisted another friend in bandaging a wound. Definitely, I will recommend for more people about this trekking trip from Hung and hope everyone can experience this fun adventure.

Our Tour was truly amazing! While hiking our Guide told us alot about the Locals Lifestyle. It felt like we got soaked into another world.
We got asked if we wanna go offroad or not. If you can you should definitely do that, because she‘ll lead you to places with an incredible View and No other tourists in sight.
All in all it was an unforgettable experience and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Sapa! :D
