Non-guests are welcome. Come through the lobby, ride the lift to the top, and dress a little smart — mountain-trek fleece feels out of place here. One house rule to know: children aren’t allowed in the bar after 6 PM.

Two honest notes. At 55%, this is the strongest drink in town, and it tastes like liquorice with an argument in it — not everyone’s glass. And no, it does not make you hallucinate; that legend died with the 1915 ban. It just works fast.

What to Order at Absinthe Bar
The signatures lean local on purpose. The Chrysanthemum (360,000 VND) builds Sapa’s flower into gin and absinthe. The “Phở” Cocktail (280,000 VND) runs Tanqueray through coriander, star anise and cinnamon — pho in a glass, better than it sounds. “Chanel Your Inner Coco” (350,000 VND) arrives with sparkling wine and actual pearls on the side.
Reviewers are split on them, and fairly: the stories are five-star, the flavours sometimes three. If you want a safer glass, the espresso martinis start at 165,000 VND and do their job. There’s a full vegetarian food menu too — rare for a bar in this town.
By day, the same room hosts an afternoon tea set in a birdcage stand. It photographs better than it eats — more than one review calls the price hard to justify. Treat it as rent for the room, not the reason to come.
When to Go — and the Honest Part
Come for the last hour of daylight, take the terrace, and let the fire pit do the work. On a clear evening, the mountains line up behind your glass; when the fog sits down on the town, you’re paying salon prices for the salon alone.
The complaints in reviews repeat, so believe them. Peak hours bring selfie crowds and waits — one reviewer clocked 30 minutes for two cocktails. And everything costs roughly double what the bars down on Cau May charge, before the 15% in service and tax lands on the bill.
