All nine hostels survived our July re-check — but once we fixed the review numbers, the top spot changed hands.
Hostels change fast — names flip, standards slip, and review counts drift from what old lists claim. For this update we re-pulled every hostel’s live Google score and count, corrected four entries that were carrying wrong numbers, and re-ranked the table by what the data says today.
The nine, re-ranked by today’s numbers

The nine, in order
1. Sapa Hub Hostel & Trekking — the new number one

Our previous list undercounted this one badly — the real score is 4.9 across 556 Google reviews, backed by 9.0 on Hostelworld and 8.7 on Booking. Every dorm has its own bathroom, beds start at $5.71, the breakfast has a banana-bread fan club, and reception moonlights as a trekking operator. The trade: a 10–15 minute uphill walk from the centre. We reviewed it in full — see our Sapa Hub Hostel review.
2. Fancy Sapa Hostel — the central charmer

Right in the town’s walking core on Dong Loi Street, with warm blankets, hot showers and a rooftop that catches the mountains. It holds a 4.8 across 109 Google reviews — a smaller sample than the hype suggests, but the reviews it has are consistently glowing. Best pick if you want to fall out of bed into cafes and the night market.
3. Pea Hostel — the quiet one

A small, homely place on the calmer stretch of Dien Bien Phu: 4.6 across 90 reviews, strong WiFi, and hosts who treat you like a returning cousin. Few beds means it fills — book ahead if your dates are fixed. For travellers who want hostel prices without hostel noise.
4. Venus Hostel — space by the lake

Steps from Sapa Lake at 04 Le Quy Don, scoring 4.5 across 197 reviews. The draw is space — rooms run bigger than hostel standard — plus tidy bathrooms and a peaceful street. Good fit for couples and small groups doing the budget trip together.
5. Sapa Backpacker — the social bet

The classic hostel formula done right: central, lively common areas, staff who connect solo travellers into groups. Now at 4.5 across 170 Google reviews. If your Sapa plan is “meet people, then trek with them”, start here.
6. Himalaya Sapa — the price floor

Basic, clean, quiet, near the centre off Xuan Vien — 4.4 across 237 reviews. No frills is the feature: this is where the sub-$6 bed lives without the party attached. Sleep, shower, trek, repeat.
7. Sapa Odyssey — views and a bar

On Muong Hoa Street — the valley-view side of town — with cozy beds, its own bar and restaurant, and a 4.4 across 129 reviews. The only hostel on this list where “mountain view” is part of the deal rather than a lucky room.
8. Go Sapa Hostel — location per dong

At 25 Thac Bac you are near the Stone Church, the market and the cable-car shuttle — with 320 Google reviews averaging 4.3. Rooms are simple and the vibe is friendly; you are paying for the pin on the map, and it is a good pin.
9. Lustig Hostel — the garden option

Sapa Hub’s quieter neighbour at the same 762 Dien Bien Phu address: eight rooms with balconies, a garden, breakfast, and a relaxed pace. Google shows 4.2 across 355 ratings; its Booking crowd rates it warmer. Pick it when you want hostel prices with guesthouse energy.

FAQs
How much do hostels in Sapa cost?
Dorm beds run about $5–8 a night in 2026, with private rooms at $15–25. The ensuite dorms at Sapa Hub start at $5.71 — less than most hotel breakfasts in town.
Do Sapa hostels have private rooms?
Most do — Lustig is nearly all private balcony rooms, and Venus and Pea run doubles. If privacy matters every night, compare prices against our budget homestay picks before deciding.
Which Sapa hostel is best for solo travellers?
Sapa Hub for trek-and-meet energy with an ensuite dorm; Sapa Backpacker if the common-room social scene is the priority. Both group solo hikers into shared departures.
Is breakfast included at Sapa hostels?
Often, and it varies by rate — Sapa Hub and Lustig include it on most bookings. Confirm when you book; a $2 add-on breakfast is still the best deal on your trip.
The honest verdict: nine hostels, all open, all re-counted — and the data crowned a new leader. Book Sapa Hub for the full trek-base package, Fancy for the town at your door, and spend what you saved on the mountains you came for.
