Rong May Glass Bridge: what you’re actually visiting
Rong May (“Dragon Cloud”) opened in November 2019 just beyond the top of O Quy Ho Pass. The entrance sign reads Tam Duong district, Lai Chau – not Sapa, and not even Lao Cai province. Your phone may ping the change as you cross the summit.
The complex is built into a cliff at roughly 2,200 meters above sea level. From the gate, a walkway leads into a 70-meter tunnel cut through the rock, where a glass elevator climbs the open cliff face [~300 m rise]. The bridge itself is a glass-floored deck fixed to the top [walkway ~60 m].
Be clear about what this is: a thrill stop, not a hike. You ride up, you walk on air, and the mountains do the rest. On a clear day, that’s plenty.

What to Expect at Glass Bridge Sapa
The visit starts at the ticket counter, and honestly, it’s more relaxed than you might expect.
Around the entrance are small shops renting traditional outfits, selling drinks, snacks, and a few souvenirs. If you want photos in ethnic clothing, this is where most people stop first.
And if you happen to like cats, keep an eye out for the small cat corner. You can buy a pack of treats and spend a few quiet minutes feeding them.
Once you’re ready, a shuttle bus takes you to the elevator station, so you don’t have to walk uphill.
After a quick ticket check inside the tunnel, you’ll step into the glass elevator for the ride up the mountain.

The views are what people come for. On a clear day, you can see the mountains rolling away in every direction. If the weather is cloudy, the experience feels completely different. The bridge sits above a sea of mist, and for a while, it almost feels like there’s nothing below you.
After spending some time on the bridge, most visitors grab a drink at the café or wander around the viewpoints for more photos. If you’re up for something a little more adventurous, there are activities like ziplining and sky cycling nearby.
One thing worth knowing is that some parts of the complex, including the infinity pool and parts of the restaurant area, feel a little dated now. But if you’re here for the glass bridge and the mountain views, that’s still the part of Rong May that stays with most people.
After you’ve had your fill of the views, take a little time to wander around. There’s a photo service if you’d like to bring home a printed picture instead of keeping everything on your phone.
Getting there from Sapa
The bridge sits on highway QL4D, about 17 km west of Sapa town — 30 minutes by car or motorbike, longer in fog. The road is the O Quy Ho Pass itself, so the drive is half the experience.
Three practical ways to do it:
- Motorbike — the best ride in northern Vietnam, if you’re confident on mountain roads.
- Taxi or private car — the easy answer when the weather turns.
- Half-day tour — bundles the bridge with Love Waterfall; both sit on the same stretch of road.

Is the glass bridge safe?
The deck is triple-layer tempered glass and 4 thick film layers, rated for far more weight than it ever carries. Staff cap the bridge at 500 people at a time. The elevator takes about 30 people per ride and moves roughly 1,200 people an hour, so queues clear quickly.
On one of our runs up, a woman took two steps onto the glass, turned straight around, and shot photos from the solid edge for twenty minutes. Staff didn’t blink. Nobody rushes you here — going halfway counts.
Honestly, the more demanding part is the road, not the bridge. If fog rolls in, take the pass slowly or let a driver handle it.
On the bridge: the view, the games, and what to skip
The main event is simple: you, a glass floor, and the valley below. From roughly October to December, morning cloud seas form under the bridge, and you walk above a white floor that moves. That sight alone fills most visits.
The thrill games are charged per ride — 150,000 VND each. The current posted menu lists a single wooden plank bridge, the Death Swing, a high-speed zipline, a cloud suspension bridge (helmet and harness provided), and a sky bike. Pick one or two; nobody needs all five.
One correction to older write-ups — including our own: bungee jumping and a zipline used to headline this place’s marketing, but neither appears on the current game menu. If a bungee jump is the whole reason you’re coming, call ahead first.
Best time to go
September to November brings the clearest air and the longest views. December to March is cloud-hunting season — a gamble that pays off spectacularly or not at all. April to August is greener and quieter, with afternoon rain a regular guest.
Whatever the month, go in the morning and check the weather from town before you commit. You’re paying to look down — make sure there’s something down there to see.
