Legend of Ham Rong Mountain Sapa
Explore the mysterious legend of Ham Rong Mountain

The name “Ham Rong” translates to “Jaw of the Dragon,” symbolizing the mountain’s unique shape resembling a dragon’s jaw. There are two myths relating to Ham Rong Mountain Sapa:

Mythm 1: Legend has it that in the past, in this mountainous area, a pair of dragons were playing together, when a violent flood came. One was able to fly to the sky, and the other was stuck in the earth, petrified about the direction his friend had flown away, that is, to the west of the Hoang Lien Son range. The first part is Ham Rong Mountain Sapa today, while the tail part stretches from Heaven Gate, O Quy Ho pass peak, to the boundary of Muong Hoa commune.

Myth 2: Another legend about Ham Rong Mountain is related to the three Dragon brothers. At the beginning of the world, all creatures lived in chaos everywhere in the mud, so the Jade Emperor ordered the creatures to establish their own territorial boundaries. At that time, the three Dragon brothers looked to the East and saw that there was no place, so they decided to run to the West. The youngest brother could not catch up with the two brothers, so he got lost in the crowd of tigers and leopards, cowered in fear, and opened his mouth to defend himself.

Just then, the time limit for territorial acquisition was over, and the younger brother of the Dragon was petrified in a posture of raising his head and opening his mouth, which is part of Ham Rong Mountain Sapa. And the two brothers came back to save her, but they couldn’t make it in time, also turned into two large mountain ranges lying next to each other, forming three adjacent mountain ranges.
