Tran Quoc Pagoda
– Located on a small island on the eastern shore of West Lake, Tran Quoc Pagoda is the oldest Buddhist temple in Hanoi, with over 1,500 years of history. The site is known for its serene setting, ancient architecture, and significance during the Ly and Tran dynasties as a major Buddhist center in Thang Long (ancient Hanoi).
Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Complex
– Visit the final resting place of President Ho Chi Minh, where you can see the Mausoleum (outside only on Mondays and Fridays due to maintenance), his Stilt House, and the Presidential Garden. Learn about the life and legacy of “Uncle Ho” and his contributions to Vietnamese independence.
One Pillar Pagoda
– A symbol of Hanoi, this unique pagoda is designed to resemble a lotus flower and is an iconic religious site dating back to the 11th century.
Vietnam Museum of Ethnology
– This museum showcases the diverse cultures of Vietnam’s 54 ethnic groups. Explore both the indoor exhibits and the open-air display of traditional houses.
Note: On Mondays, this museum is closed. The itinerary will include a visit to the Vietnamese Women’s Museum instead.
Enjoy a traditional Vietnamese lunch at a local restaurant in the Hanoi Old Quarter. After lunch, you’ll drive through the historic 36 streets of the Old Quarter while listening to fascinating stories from your guide about this bustling ancient marketplace.
Temple of Literature (Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam)
Known as Vietnam’s first university, this temple was built in 1070 and is dedicated to Confucius and scholars. It’s a symbol of education, literature, and traditional architecture in Vietnam.
Hoa Lo Prison (Hanoi Hilton)
Originally built by the French in 1896, this prison held political prisoners and later American POWs during the Vietnam War, including Senator John McCain. The museum offers a deep and moving insight into Vietnam’s colonial and wartime history.
