Overnight buses take about 7 hours. They run slower after dark and stop once, which is the point — you are not trying to arrive at 3 AM.

By private car or limousine — flexible and faster
Travelling as a family or group, or want to leave on your own clock? A private vehicle runs door to door in about 5.5 hours, with stops where you like.
- Private 4–7 seat car — from $158: couples or a small group with luggage.
- Private 9–11 seat limousine — from $205: room for a full group heading to the loop together.
Four people in the 7-seat car works out around $40 each — not far off two cabin beds, and you keep the whole day.
Is there a train to Ha Giang?
No. Ha Giang has no railway, so there is no train from Hanoi or anywhere else, and no airport either. Anyone advertising a “Hanoi to Ha Giang train” is selling you a bus. The real choices are the overnight cabin bus or a private car.
Are you doing the Ha Giang Loop?
Most people come here for the loop — the 3–4 day motorbike circuit through the far north. That is a trip in itself, not a transfer, and it runs all year with a different landscape each month.

- Pick your mode. Overnight cabin bus for most people; private car if you are a group or want your own departure time.
- Book 2–3 days ahead in the busy months — September to November and around Tet. Cabins sell out on weekends first.
- Confirm your Hanoi pickup. Cabin buses and private cars both collect near the Old Quarter, but not always at your door.
